St. Isidore Historical Plaza is honoring the USO at a Picnic at The Plaza on May 16 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Invitations have gone out to the JFTB, Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, American Legion, VFW and the Long Beach VA. The picnic will host the Director of the Greater Los Angeles Area USO, Bob Kurkjian. There will also be troops from the “base” coming by to say hello and all who attend the picnic will be there to cheer them on. Movie stars who spent their time entertaining troops away from home will be represented as well.
Supporting America’s troops was the first mission of the USO. In 1941, as it became clear that the nation was heading into World War II, several organizations mobilized to support the growing military by forming the United Service Organizations. Today, the USO continues to lift the spirits of America’s troops and will continue to be there for them until everyone comes home.
There will be great food with music by The Isidorians, a St. Isidore first, for a gala evening of fun and laughter. Board member, Ann Busenkell coordinated the event for all to enjoy and to keep the Plaza alive and well.
The St. Isidore Historical Plaza is located at 10961 Reagan Street in Los Alamitos. For more information and to become a member, please call 562-596-9918.
