Cypress Recreation and Community Services is inviting all 7-12 graders who are Cypress residents or who attend schools in Cypress to participate in the annual Youth Juried Art Contest. Divisions include Digital/Photography & Fine Art Divisions for both Junior (7th-8th graders) and Senior (9th-12th graders) Divisions.
Gift Certificates will be given out to the 1st and 2nd place winners in each division. Applications are available at the Cypress Community Center, Cypress City Hall, Cypress Library, and at cypressrec.com. Artwork and applications can be turned in Tuesday, April 15 – Thursday, April 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cypress Senior Center, 9031 Grindlay St.

Cypress City Manager John Bahorski was fired by the Cypress City Council during a closed session meeting on Monday.
Bahorski has been the city’s manager since 2007. Reports are that no reason was given for his termination and that he will receive a one-year salary payment as a severance package and will also be able to cash out on unused vacation and sick pay, amounting to more than $280,000, according to media reports.
Cypress Director of Finance, Richard Storey will serve as interim city manager during a search for a permanent replacement.
